Irkutsk is an ancient city in Russia, located in the east of Siberia in the picturesque valley of the Angara River. It is the administrative center of the Irkutsk region and the district of the same name, one of the most economically, culturally and scientifically developed cities in the East Siberian region. Irkutsk was founded at the confluence of the Irkut and Angara rivers on the site of a wooden fortress-fortress founded on July 6, 1661 by the Cossacks under the command of the boyar’s son Yakov Pokhabov.
